Accessing Your Roadmap

You can access the Onboarding Roadmap from:

  • The main dashboard after activating your first framework

  • The navigation menu is accessed by clicking on the roadmap icon

  • Direct links within welcome emails and notifications

The roadmap displays your currently active framework at the top, with a progress indicator showing your completion percentage.

The Four Phases

The Onboarding Roadmap is organized into four sequential phases, each building on the previous one:

Phase 1: Onboarding

This foundational phase focuses on basic setup and framework activation. Key tasks include:

  • Select frameworks: Choose the compliance standards relevant to your business

  • Check Controls: Review which controls apply to your organization and scope

  • Assemble your team: Invite team members and assign compliance ownership

  • Connect your Identity Provider: Link Google Workspace or Microsoft 365

  • Connect core integrations: Set up cloud, development, and communication tools

Estimated time: 30-45 minutes

Most tasks in this phase include "time to complete" estimates and direct action buttons to launch the relevant setup flow.

Phase 2: Policies & People

Once your foundation is set, this phase focuses on documentation and personnel management:

  • Create or customize security policies

  • Assign policy owners and reviewers

  • Set up policy approval workflows

  • Configure personnel security requirements

  • Document organizational structure and responsibilities

Estimated time: 2-4 hours (can be distributed across team members)

This phase typically involves more stakeholders, as different team members will own different policies.

Phase 3: Automated Tests & Risks

With policies in place, this phase activates monitoring and risk management:

  • Review automated test results from your integrations

  • Configure custom tests for your specific requirements

  • Address any failing tests or control gaps

  • Identify and document organizational risks

  • Create risk treatment plans

Estimated time: 3-6 hours

This is where DSALTA's automation really shines—many controls are automatically verified through your integrated systems.

Phase 4: Trust & Audit Readiness

The final phase prepares you for external engagement:

  • Set up your public Trust Center

  • Organize evidence for audit requirements

  • Review control completion status

  • Prepare audit documentation packages

  • Configure external auditor access

Estimated time: 2-3 hours

Completing this phase means you're ready for formal audits and can confidently share your security posture with customers.

Understanding Task Status

Each task in the roadmap shows its current status:

  • Checkmark (Green): Task completed

  • Empty checkbox: Task not yet started

  • In progress indicator: Task partially completed

Click on any task to expand it and view:

  • Detailed description of what needs to be done

  • Estimated time to complete

  • Action buttons to launch the relevant workflow

  • Additional context or best practices

Time Estimates and Planning

The roadmap provides time estimates for each task to help you plan your compliance program implementation:

  • Quick tasks (1-5 min): Can be completed immediately

  • Short tasks (10-15 min): Good for between-meeting time slots

  • Longer tasks (30+ min): Schedule dedicated time to complete

These estimates are averages—your actual time may vary based on your organization's complexity and how much preparation you've done.

Getting Help

If you're stuck on any roadmap task, you have several options:

  • Click the help icon (?) next to any task for additional guidance

  • Visit the DSALTA Help Center for detailed articles on specific topics

  • Book a 1-on-1 onboarding session with the DSALTA team using the "Book a Meeting" button at the bottom of the roadmap

Progress Tracking

Your overall progress is calculated based on completed tasks weighted by their importance. The progress bar at the top provides a quick visual indicator of how far you've come.

Remember: you don't need to complete every single task to be compliant. The roadmap includes recommended tasks, but your specific requirements may vary based on your organization's scope and risk profile.

Beyond the Roadmap

Once you've completed the Onboarding Roadmap, DSALTA continues to guide you through:

  • Ongoing compliance maintenance

  • Periodic control reviews and updates

  • New framework implementations

  • Audit preparation workflows

The roadmap ensures you start strong, but DSALTA's value continues long after these initial tasks are complete.

Next Steps

Start with Phase 1 and work through tasks sequentially. The roadmap is designed so that later tasks build on earlier ones—for example, you can't effectively run automated tests until you've connected your integrations.

Focus on completing one phase at a time, and don't hesitate to involve your team members to distribute the work efficiently.
